About Us
Share Thy Bread is a 501(c)(3) food pantry in Tryon, NC, dedicated to providing free food and essential services to low income and disadvantaged families since May 2014. We believe in making a difference in people's lives and impacting them for eternity. Share Thy Bread offers a well-balanced selection of food, promoting wellness for every individual in our community. Our program support an average of 11,580 household visits annually, distributing over 248,389 pounds of MANNA food annually to those in need in Polk, Hendersonville, Rutherfordton, Greenville and Spartanburg Counties.
Types of Assistance
We offer food support through our TEFAP, HOP, and MANNA services, ensuring that individuals and families facing hunger have access to nutritious meals when they need it most.
Services
These are the three main programs that we provide. We receive Manna truck deliveries every two weeks which enable us to provide our community neighbors with the food and nutrition that they need as well as TEFAP which helps lower income families. HOP is a weekly program, which is delivered to each neighbor that has qualified, a box of shelf stable food as well as fresh produce.
H.O.P.
The Healthy Opportunities Pilot (HOP) is an innovative new approach to supporting the upstream social determinants of health and reducing the need for clinical interventions by using Medicaid dollars to pay for services such as nutrition. HOP allows nonprofit human service organizations (HSOs) to receive Medicaid reimbursements from private health plans for the services they provide to qualifying Medicaid members related to housing, transportation, food, and personal safety.
T.E.F.A.P.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a federal program that helps supplement the diets of people with low income by providing them with emergency food assistance at no cost. USDA provides 100% American-grown USDA Foods and administrative funds to states to operate TEFAP.
Manna
MANNA FoodBank, a member of Feeding America, located in Mills River, North Carolina, is a private, not-for-profit service organization working to end food insecurity in the 16 counties of Western North Carolina, including the Qualla Boundary. MANNA links the food industry to over 200 partner pantries and other human service organizations to get food to thousands of families’ tables.
Community Outreach
It is important to us that our community neighbors know that we are here for them. We are willing to provide them with the produce, food and personal care items that they might have trouble purchasing for themselves. Whether at our home pantry or through one of our pop-up pantries we are ready to serve our community.
